Bucket List
I want to wave at a stranger and smile as they stare.
I want to call an old friend to have a meaningless conversation and laugh till our lungs hurt.
I want to be recklessly in love. just to feel the ripples of my heart beat, just to get hurt.
I want to talk about it to someone over coffee.
I want that coffee to be bitter so that the memory compliments it.
I want to stay up all night reading a book and mourning the loss of my favorite character.
I want those lyrics to remind me of a lover.
I want to keep the letters, movie tickets and key chains just to be reminded of little things.
I want to write all my fears down and send it into the sea in a bottle and watch it float away.
I want to make jokes and argue with someone witty.
I want to travel somewhere far just to feel homesick.
I want to paint this moment just to remember who I was.

Hypocrisis
If someone dressed up in a saree with belly jutting out, having a deep valley cut in the blouse, both front and back with thin pleats and risky strings which can undo the whole tedious two hour process in one pull, it is no big deal. This is part of our tradition and culture. At the same time, a girl dressed up in a lopsided crop top and ripped low waist jeans is incriminated just because she doesn't fall under the society's norms of selective modesty. Her exposed belly is provocative but saree does not buy stares.
One country where spirituality is propagated by feeding lifeless idols and driving away the hungry destitute.
Temples ask for men to remove their shirts and women to cover every inch of their body. A menstruating female is barred from entering a temple, when god himself bestowed the capability of creating life.
A place which lets criminals on the loose and victims behind bars.
Here my friend, you cannot talk to a stranger, but you can sleep with one after the extravagant trade of flesh and money, also known as marriage.
Where people blame rape on skimpy clothes and Chow Mein. Where the policeman beats up his own wife behind closed doors and goes out at night on patrol under the solemn pretext of moral policing.
Every tv show is about powerless women subdued under male dominance with misogyny at its very best.
A place where big bucks are shelled out on campaigning but not a single mouth is fed.
We have moved ten steps ahead in terms of technology and global standards of development but receded a thousand steps backwards when it comes to rationality. The journey to greater heights can't be hiked with haze of backward thoughts clouding our vision.
It is time we get out of the old redundant loop of traditions. No one moves ahead in reverse gear.
Break the hypocrisy and bend the traditions.
